The arrangement in full, including the call to your utility that we do not get paid for.
The essentials
Payment runs one way only: the contractor pays when a call reaches them, and the caller pays nothing. Before any of that, this site tells readers to check with their utility, because a leak on the utility’s side is not their bill.
On the call
You give us the ZIP code and what you are seeing. We check it against the areas our partner contractors cover and connect you with one who covers yours. If nobody does, we say so on the call.
We do not take details to pass on later and we do not sell them.
Who pays us, and the awkward part
The contractors, when we route them a call. You are never charged anything, whether or not any work goes ahead.
That gives us an obvious reason to want you to call, so here is what we do about it: the first thing this site tells you is to telephone your water utility, because if the leak is on their side of the line there is no job here at all. The second is to check your meter yourself, which is free. We would rather lose the call than earn it from somebody who did not need to make it.
Not a utility, not a contractor
We are not a contractor and we locate nothing. We carry no equipment, we survey no property, we sell no instruments, we set no prices and we supervise nobody. Contractors in our network are independent businesses required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands.
We do not vouch for any individual contractor and no page here says we do.
And we are not your utility
Nothing on this site is a statement about what your own utility will credit, what its deadline is, or where its responsibility ends. Those are questions only it can answer, and every page that touches them says so.
Check with your water utility first.If the leak is on their side it is not your bill and not your excavation, and that call is free. If it is yours, come back and we will route you to a local contractor who can find it, chosen on the ZIP code you give. We never charge you either way. Nor must it be a leak: whatever the plumbing is doing, this number reaches somebody.
